Making music is fun and exciting. In my teaching I open the world of music up to students by presenting solid flute concepts and exposing students to a variety of musical styles. Together these two elements contribute to the development of a student's appreciation for and lifelong love of music and music making.

In lessons, students compile the tools needed to learn new music and make decisions about how the music should be played. Each student is actively involved in choosing repertory and overcoming challenges which leads to good musicianship. The problem solving and time management skills used for lessons will have positive effects on many other areas in the student's life.

Weekly private lessons are available for thirty, forty-five or sixty minutes. Semi-private lessons are available for younger students at similar levels of development.

Lesson Materials

Lesson materials consist of a variety of books (method, etude, solo, and duet) each chosen to meet the student's individual needs. Students should have a manuscript book for lesson assignments, and a loose-leaf binder to keep handouts in. All students are required to read: The Young Musicians' Survival Guide by Amy Nathan (Oxford) available through bookstores and the Reading Public Library www.readingpl.org

In addition to weekly lessons, master class and performance opportunities are available to all students.

Instruments

The market is filled with flutes in a wide range of prices and qualities. Flutes will last a long time if they are treated with care and receive good maintenance. I am happy to help my students choose the flute that fits their needs. Many dealers allow trial periods of a few days to a week where you can try different instruments at your home. If you are in the market for your own instrument or are thinking of upgrading please let me know.
